UNRESOLVED GUILT AND £1950

Living in the UK for a period of time long enough to make me eligable to apply for citizenship relied on a lot of work, compromises and sacrifices from every one of my immediate family memebrs. Unressolved guilt has been one of the outcomes of struggling to emotionally process this, as well as aquiring of a new legal identity which granted me a set of priviladges, differentiating me from much of my family, friends and a lot of other immigrants whose life would be changed by becoming British. The application cost came to £1950, which in essence was the final thing that allowed me to progress towards becoming a citizen. My Britishness became defined by my unresolved guilt of being an emigrant, and the £1950 that my father had saved in order to fullfil his dream of his children becoming British Citizens. He became a British Citizen the following year.
